1st Mountain Festival

Have you ever wondered how a helium balloon would cope with the thin atmosphere at 3800m above sea level? Or what it would take to hold a balloon festival at 2100m?

Wonder no longer, because that’s exactly what the pioneers at Piniboom did when they held the first Mountain Festival in Kabardino-Balkaria, Russia. This wonderful festival was four years in the making and took a huge amount of planning and organisation, no small task for a team that consists of just two people and a baby! At times they may have wondered if they could do it, but in the end everything came together perfectly.

Over 50 participants took part, split into five teams with truly unique and imaginative names that beautifully illustrated the creativity of everyone involved. Uncle Pasha, Pucca’s VIP, No Name, Aerotresh and Sdvoy Rows competed against each other in various categories, with a theme of “Sea, Summer, Insects”.

One of the most difficult categories was the black box challenge, where each team was given a mystery box full of balloons and had to think quickly to build their sculpture. With no warning or time to plan, this challenge truly tested everyone’s creativity and the judges were excited to see the results.

The Mountain Festival was a very friendly event, with a family atmosphere. Even though it was a competition, the teams came together to support and help each other, showing great sportsmanship as well as skill. After all, the aim was really to enjoy creating beautiful balloon art and to spread a little joy, something which they definitely achieved.

At times all the participants struggled a little with the unfamiliar altitude, but what of the balloons? We were very pleased to hear that Gemar balloons passed the test and coped beautifully with the journey to 3800m. Not something we ever thought they would have to do, but an excellent test of a top quality balloon!
