World Environment Day: GEMAR Supports the “Nuovo Orto Biologico” Project in Rome
Every year on June 5, World Environment Day brings together people, communities, businesses and institutions around the world to promote environmental awareness and encourage action in response to some of today’s most pressing challenges, including biodiversity loss, climate change and the responsible use of natural resources.
At GEMAR, we believe that positive change is built through concrete actions that generate value for both people and the environment. For this reason, we have chosen to support the “Nuovo Orto Biologico” project developed by Cooperativa Sociale La Nuova Arca, a social cooperative based in Rome that promotes inclusion, autonomy and opportunities through social and organic agriculture.
Supporting Social and Organic Agriculture in Rome
The project is located in Castel di Leva, on the outskirts of Rome, where La Nuova Arca manages social farming activities designed to create meaningful opportunities for people experiencing vulnerable situations while contributing to the wellbeing of the local community.
GEMAR’s contribution will help strengthen the cooperative’s agricultural activities through a concrete investment that includes:
- 2,830 certified organic vegetable plants
- The installation of a dedicated irrigation system
- Cultivation materials, including compost and agricultural covers
- A GEMAR-branded plaque as a symbol of the company’s commitment to the local territory
Through the cultivation of certified organic crops, the project will help enhance biodiversity and contribute to the ecological wellbeing of the peri-urban area surrounding Rome.
Creating Environmental and Social Value
The “Nuovo Orto Biologico” project generates positive impact across several dimensions.
Social Inclusion and Work Opportunities
Agricultural activities become a tool for empowerment, learning and participation, helping people develop skills and gain access to meaningful work opportunities.
Environmental Responsibility and Biodiversity
Organic farming practices contribute to the protection of biodiversity, support healthier ecosystems and promote a more responsible use of natural resources.
Community Wellbeing
The creation and maintenance of green spaces foster stronger connections between people, nature and the local territory, improving quality of life and strengthening community ties.
A Commitment Rooted in Local Communities
Through its support of the “Nuovo Orto Biologico” project, GEMAR reinforces its commitment to generating tangible environmental and social value within its local territory.
On World Environment Day, this initiative serves as an example of how collaboration between businesses and social organizations can contribute to creating positive outcomes for communities, people and the environment alike.
